July 25, 2010

Morgellons Disease is an inexplicable dermopathy put forward by the Centers for Disease control and Protection. It is believed that it involves cutaneous symptoms like biting, stinging, crawling, skin lesions and fibers on the skin. But a group of dermatologists and psychiatrists believes that it is nothing but the same disease as noticed before like delusional parasitosis in which similar symptoms have been seen. Delusional Parasitosis is generally treated with antipsychotic drugs.

Morgellons Disease symptoms include fibers projecting out of the skin rashes or wounds and sensation of bugs inside and on the skin. Painfulness is the other most noticed symptom. Such type of pain takes place in joints, muscular and connective tissues. One of the most severe symptoms of this disease is cognitive dysfunction which is more popularly known as brain fog by the sufferers. The symptom can cause gradual memory loss which prevents concentrating properly.

It has been seen that people suffering from Morgellons Disease always complain about the way they are being attended by the doctors. The disease is diagnosed and examined differently by different physicians. Some physicians do not believe them and suggest to the patient to consult a psychiatrist. They are sometimes prescribed with pimozide which is also an antipsychotic in addition to this it also acts on wounds and rashes to get rid of itching. In some cases, individuals may refuse to completely believe that they are suffering from any such disease and stop taking medication which leads to even worse condition than before.

There is a ray of hope for those who believe that they are suffering from Morgellons as many doctors take such symptoms seriously and are working in the right direction of Morgellons Disease treatment.
